What to See and Do in Rabat: The Capital of Morocco - Avenue Mohammed V - Casablanca

Day 1: Casablanca Airport – Rabat

Welcome to Morocco! Upon arrival at Casablanca Airport, your driver will meet you and begin the journey to discover Morocco’s cultural and natural treasures. We start with a visit to the city’s most famous landmark, the Hassan II Mosque—one of the largest mosques in the world and an architectural masterpiece overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.

After the visit, we drive north to Rabat, Morocco’s modern capital. Here, you’ll explore the Hassan Tower, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, and the tranquil Oudaya Kasbah perched above the Bou Regreg River. Dinner and overnight stay in a comfortable local hotel in Rabat.

 

 

Day 2: Rabat – Rif Mountains – Chefchaouen

After breakfast, we journey north through the lush Rif Mountains, passing the towns of Kenitra and Ouazzane, before reaching the magical Chefchaouen—Morocco’s famous “Blue City.”

You’ll stroll through the narrow, winding streets of the medina lined with blue-washed buildings, explore the main square of Outa el Hammam, and enjoy free time to wander or shop for local handicrafts. Dinner and overnight stay in a riad in Chefchaouen.

 

Day 3: Chefchaouen – Volubilis – Meknes – Fes

We depart Chefchaouen after breakfast and head to the ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the best-preserved Roman cities in North Africa. You’ll enjoy a guided tour through its mosaics, temples, and arches.

From there, we continue to Meknes, the Imperial City built by Sultan Moulay Ismail. We visit the monumental Bab El Mansour Gate, the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail, and the old royal stables before heading to Fes for dinner and overnight stay in a charming riad.

 

Day 4: Fes Guided Tour

After breakfast, a local guide will lead you through Fes el-Bali, the oldest and most culturally rich medina in Morocco. We visit the Royal Palace Gates, the Jewish Quarter (Mellah), and the Al Quaraouiyine University—the world’s oldest existing university.

We also stop by the Chouara Tannery to see how traditional leather goods are made and visit artisan workshops that preserve centuries-old craftsmanship. End the day with dinner and an overnight stay in your riad.

 

Day 5: Fes – Ifrane – Midelt – Ziz Valley – Merzouga

Today, we leave Fes behind and head south through the scenic Middle Atlas Mountains. We stop in Ifrane, known as the “Switzerland of Morocco,” and in Azrou to visit the cedar forest inhabited by Barbary macaques.

We continue through the town of Midelt and drive across the Ziz Valley, famous for its palm groves and date production. Passing through Erfoud and Rissani, we reach Merzouga by late afternoon. Dinner and overnight stay in a desert hotel at the edge of the dunes.

 

Day 6: Merzouga Desert Tour and Camel Trek

After breakfast, we begin our 4×4 desert tour around the stunning Erg Chebbi dunes. We’ll visit nomadic families living in the desert, explore the village of Khamlia known for its traditional Gnawa music, and discover hidden oases among the dunes.

In the afternoon, we switch to camels for a sunset trek across the desert to your Berber camp. Upon arrival, enjoy mint tea, dinner, and live drumming under the starry Sahara sky. Overnight stay in a nomad tent.

 

Day 7: Merzouga – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley

Wake up early to witness a magnificent Sahara sunrise. After breakfast, we return to Merzouga by camel and start the drive toward Todra Gorge. You’ll have time to walk through the towering canyon walls before continuing to the Dades Valley.

This region, often called the “Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs,” is filled with red cliffs, lush oases, and traditional villages. Dinner and overnight stay in a riad overlooking the valley.

 

Day 8: Dades Valley – Skoura – Ouarzazate

After breakfast, we travel through the scenic Valley of Roses and the palm groves of Skoura before arriving in Ouarzazate. Here, we visit the Atlas Film Studios—the largest in Africa—where countless Hollywood movies such as Gladiator and Game of Thrones were filmed. Dinner and overnight stay in a hotel in Ouarzazate.

 

Day 9: Ouarzazate – Ait Benhaddou – Marrakech

After breakfast, we visit Ait Benhaddou, Morocco’s most iconic fortified village and UNESCO World Heritage Site. After exploring the kasbah, we cross the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260 m) in the High Atlas Mountains on our way to Marrakech. Dinner and overnight stay in a traditional riad.

 

Day 10: Marrakech Guided Tour

Today, enjoy a guided tour of Marrakech, the “Red City.” We’ll explore the Koutoubia Mosque, Bahia Palace, Majorelle Gardens, and the vibrant Jemaa el-Fna Square. The medina’s bustling souks offer endless opportunities for shopping and photography. Dinner and overnight stay in Marrakech.

 

Day 11: Marrakech – Essaouira

After breakfast, we head to Essaouira, a historic port city on the Atlantic coast. Along the way, we pass argan tree groves and may spot goats climbing the trees! In Essaouira, explore the old medina, walk along the ramparts, and enjoy fresh seafood by the sea. Return to Marrakech for dinner and overnight stay.

 

Day 12: Marrakech – Ourika Valley Day Excursion

Today we escape the city for a day trip to the Ourika Valley, located in the foothills of the High Atlas Mountains. You’ll explore Berber villages, visit local markets, and enjoy the stunning waterfalls and mountain scenery. Return to Marrakech in the evening.

 

Day 13: Marrakech – Casablanca

After breakfast, we travel back to Casablanca via the scenic route through the plains and mountain roads. Upon arrival, enjoy free time for shopping or relaxing by the ocean. Dinner and overnight stay in Casablanca.

 

Day 14: Transfer to the Airport

After breakfast, your driver will transfer you to Casablanca Airport for your flight home, marking the end of your unforgettable 14-day Morocco journey through Imperial Cities, mountains, and the Sahara Desert.
