Day 1: Agadir – Taroudant – Ouarzazate
Your 5-day journey from Agadir to Merzouga begins in the morning with your experienced local driver and guide. We first travel to Taroudant, one of the oldest and most charming cities in southern Morocco. Often called the “Grandmother of Marrakech,” Taroudant is famous for its well-preserved city walls, bustling souks, and traditional crafts. You’ll have time to stroll through its old medina, full of authentic Moroccan character.
From Taroudant, the landscape changes dramatically as we drive east through the Souss Valley toward the majestic Anti-Atlas Mountains. The road offers stunning views of rocky peaks, palm oases, and small Berber villages scattered along the way. In the afternoon, we reach Ouarzazate, a town known as the “Hollywood of Africa” for its film studios and desert scenery. Dinner and overnight stay in a comfortable local riad.
Day 2: Ouarzazate – Dades Gorge – Todra Gorge – Erfoud – Merzouga
After breakfast, we start the day with a visit to the world-famous Atlas Film Studios in Ouarzazate, where many iconic movies such as Gladiator and Lawrence of Arabia were filmed. We then drive through Skoura, a lush palm oasis, and continue to Kelaat M’Gouna, known for its Valley of Roses and the annual rose festival that celebrates the fragrant blooms grown here.
Next, we journey through the spectacular Dades Valley, famous for its dramatic rock formations and scenic winding roads. A short drive further brings us to the breathtaking Todra Gorge, where cliffs rise over 300 meters high, forming one of Morocco’s most stunning natural landscapes. You’ll have time to walk along the gorge and take photos before continuing towards Erfoud, the gateway to the Sahara.
From Erfoud, we head to Merzouga, where the towering Erg Chebbi dunes come into view. Dinner and overnight stay in a cozy hotel or riad near the dunes, preparing for the next day’s desert adventure.
Day 3: Merzouga Desert Tour and Camel Ride
Today is dedicated to exploring the Merzouga Desert in depth. After breakfast, we set off in a 4×4 vehicle to visit the surrounding villages and desert landscapes. Stops include the village of Khamlia, home to descendants of African traders who will welcome you with traditional Gnawa music performances — a unique blend of rhythm and spirituality.
We also visit Hassi Labiad and nearby desert oases, abandoned mines, and nomadic families who still live in the Sahara. After lunch in Merzouga and some rest, your camels will be waiting to take you on a sunset trek across the dunes of Erg Chebbi.
As the sun sets, painting the sand in golden and red hues, you’ll arrive at your Berber desert camp. Here, you’ll enjoy a traditional dinner around the campfire, accompanied by Berber drum music and dancing under the stars. Overnight stay in comfortable nomad tents with all the essential amenities for an authentic desert experience.
Day 4: Merzouga – Draa Valley – Agdez – Ouarzazate
After witnessing an unforgettable Sahara sunrise, we ride the camels back to Merzouga village. Following breakfast and a refreshing shower, we start our journey through the stunning Draa Valley, Morocco’s longest river valley lined with endless date palms and ancient kasbahs.
We pass through Rissani and Agdez, small towns rich in history and local culture, before continuing back to Ouarzazate. Dinner and overnight stay in a traditional riad or hotel.
Day 5: Ouarzazate – Ait Benhaddou – Agadir
On the final day, we visit the legendary Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most famous kasbahs in Morocco. Its mud-brick architecture and winding alleys have appeared in numerous films and series, making it a must-see landmark.
After exploring the ksar and enjoying lunch overlooking the site, we continue our drive through the mountains and valleys back to Agadir. Arrival in the late afternoon marks the end of your unforgettable 5-day Sahara desert adventure.
