Day 1: Fes – Midelt – Todgha Gorges

Your 4-day desert adventure begins after breakfast in Fes, Morocco’s cultural capital. We set out towards the majestic Todgha Gorges, passing through a variety of breathtaking landscapes that showcase Morocco’s diversity.

Our first stop is Ifrane, nicknamed the “Switzerland of Morocco” for its clean streets, European-style houses, and surrounding cedar forests. Next, we continue to Azrou, home to the Middle Atlas cedar forest, where you can see the famous Barbary macaque monkeys living freely in the wild. This is a perfect spot for photos and a short walk in nature.

From there, we continue south, passing through the small Berber village of Zaida, where we’ll stop for lunch and enjoy some local Moroccan dishes. The drive then takes us through the dramatic Atlas Mountains, offering panoramic views of valleys and rocky peaks. Along the way, we pass Midelt and Er-Rich, two small towns surrounded by mountain landscapes and desert plains. Turning east, we travel through the scenic region of Imilchil, known for its annual “Festival of Engagement.”

As evening approaches, we arrive at the breathtaking Todgha Gorges, one of Morocco’s most impressive natural wonders. Towering limestone cliffs rise up to 300 meters, carved by the river that flows through the narrow valley. You’ll spend the night in a comfortable hotel or riad near the gorge, enjoying dinner and a peaceful night surrounded by the dramatic canyon views.

Day 2: Todgha Gorges – Erfoud – Merzouga

After breakfast, we continue our journey south through the changing landscapes that lead us to the edge of the Sahara. Along the way, we pass through the Berber towns of Tinjdad and Jorf, where you’ll see ancient irrigation systems that still water the desert oases today.

We then reach Erfoud, known as the gateway to the Sahara and famous for its fossil workshops and date production. This town marks the start of the Tafilalt Oasis, one of the largest in Morocco. From here, the scenery transforms into golden sand dunes as we approach Merzouga, a charming desert village located at the foot of the towering Erg Chebbi dunes.

Upon arrival, check into your hotel and relax as the sun begins to set behind the dunes. Dinner and overnight stay in Merzouga prepare you for the adventure awaiting the next day.

Day 3: 4×4 Desert Exploration & Camel Trek

After breakfast, we begin a full-day exploration of the Sahara Desert in a comfortable 4×4 vehicle. Our route circles the stunning Erg Chebbi dunes and includes several fascinating stops. We’ll visit a local Berber family and enjoy Moroccan tea with them, followed by a trip to the village of Khamlia, famous for its traditional Gnawa music, brought by descendants of African traders from Mali, Sudan, and Ghana.

We’ll also explore abandoned mines, visit desert nomads living in traditional tents, and discover an oasis of palm trees hidden among the dunes. After returning to Merzouga for lunch and a short rest, your camels will be waiting to take you on a magical journey across the sands.

As the sun sets, you’ll ride slowly through the dunes, surrounded by silence and the warm glow of the desert. We stop at the top of a high dune to admire the incredible sunset view before reaching your Berber desert camp. Dinner will be served under the stars, followed by Berber drumming and stories around the campfire. Spend the night in a traditional tent, experiencing the calm and beauty of the Sahara night sky.

Day 4: Merzouga – Fes

Wake early to catch the stunning sunrise over the dunes — a truly unforgettable sight. After breakfast and a refreshing shower, we begin the drive back to Fes. The return route once again takes us through the Middle Atlas Mountains, where you can stop for photos and coffee breaks.

By the afternoon, we arrive in Fes, marking the end of your incredible 4-day journey through Morocco’s mountains, oases, and desert dunes.
